Boscoreale Drinking Vase - Pewter

SKU: CB500040
  • Excavated from a Villa near Pompeii, the drinking vase, in the shape of a truncated cone, has been reproduced in pewter by the Réunion des musées nationaux et du Grand Palais in Paris. The vase is embellished with a decoration of feathers, arranged in an overlapping pattern, like scales.  Known as the treasure of Boscoreale, the excavation uncovered over 100 pieces buried under the lava from the eruption of Vesuvius. The pieces, including the vase, reflected the refined tableware of the original owner, who clearly was a man of taste.
