Carved Egyptian-style Alabaster Vase (4 1/4" H)

  • Small carved Egyptian-style alabaster Vase with three ring decorative top edge, matte finish.  The Greek name alabastrites is said to be derived from the town of Alabastron, in Egypt, where the stone was quarried. In general, ancient Alabaster in Egypt and the Near & Middle East is calcite with patterns of swirling bands of cream and brown. Modern Alabaster is probably calcite.
