Mira Calligraphiae Monumenta (Model book of calligraphy), .20 (86..527), fols. 82, 13, and 118

From 1561 to 1562, Georg Bocskay, court secretary to the Holy Roman Emperor Ferdinand I, created the Mira calligraphiae monumenta in Vienna to demonstrate his technical mastery of the immense range of writing styles known to him. About thirty years later, Emperor Rudolph II, Ferdinand's grandson, commissioned Joris Hoefnagel to illuminate Bocskay's model book. Hoefnagel added fruit, flowers, and insects to nearly every page, composing them so as to enhance the unity and balance of the page's design.

Hellen van Berkel has worked as a textile designer in the Netherlands since graduating from the well-known Design Academy Eindhoven in 1989. Her work in various environments has contributed to her vast, wide-ranging experience. It was her love for textiles that inspired her to enhance the diversity of materials, colors, and pattern in her repertoire, and in 2013 she founded her own personal label, designing scarves recognizable for their own authentic, beautifully layered features.
