Nike of Samothrace Sculpture

This sculpture is a reproduction of the Winged Victory of Samothrace, also called the Nike of Samothrace - a marble Hellenistic Sculpture that was created about the 2nd century BC. Since 1884, the original has been prominently displayed at the Louvre in Paris, France and is one of the most celebrated sculptures in the world.

The winged goddess Nike or Victory was the daughter of the Titans, Pallas and Styx. After helping Zeus banish the Titans from Mt. Olympus, the supreme god honored Nike and she earned the title of goddess of victory. The image of Nike is prominent throughout Greek art and was traditionally associated with Greek art, war, athletics and poetry contest.
