This sculptural reproduction depicts the head of Hygeia. The original marble work, from Paros, at Tegee in the Peloponesse, was for a long time considered to be part of the pediments conceived by Scopas for the Temple of Athena Alea. Hygeia was the ancient Greek goddess ensuring good health for body and soul.
