Antonio Serantoni Anatomical Engraving Scarf

Scarf featuring detail of Antonio Serantoni and Paolo Mascagni's hand-colored engraving The Venous and the Arterial Systems of the Second Level of Muscles of the Human Body.

Appearing as an abstract design, this scarf features an enlarged detail taken from a hand-colored print by Antonio Serantoni, an engraver and a maker of anatomical wax figures. Serantoni worked for several years with the polymath Paolo Mascagni (1755-1815) on life-size colored illustrations for a multivolume atlas of anatomy published between 1823 and 1831. Serantoni later produced a conveniently reduced version of this universally admired work, more appropriate for everyday use and affordable to students.
