Edgar Degas was a French Impressionist artist who was famous for his pastel drawings and oil paintings. Degas also produced bronze sculptures, prints, and drawings. He is regarded as one of the founders of Impressionism, although he rejected the term and preferred to be called a realist. He especially identified with the subject of dance, with over half of his works depicting dancers.
