Greek Belly Amphora – Herakles Feasting

Located at the base of the Acropolis in the Plaka, the oldest section of Athens, is a charming workshop and gallery where artisan Sofia Gkani creates intricately detailed replicas of classical Greek vessels. Beautifully hand-painted, Sofia meticulously reproduces Corinthian, Geometric, Red or Black Figure designs on each unique terracotta piece. Each vessel is signed and numbered by the artist.

One  side of this amphora scene depicts Herakles resting and feasting, with Athena present. The other side is Black figure with a similar scene of Herakles feasting with Athena & Hermes present. A beautiful example of bilingual pottery, vases that are painted both in the black-figure and in the red-figure techniques.
