Egyptian Alabaster Vase (4" H)

  • The Greek name alabastrites is said to be derived from the town of Alabastron, in Egypt, where the stone was quarried. In general, ancient Alabaster in Egypt and the Near & Middle East is calcite with patterns of swirling bands of cream and brown. Modern Alabaster is probably calcite.
