Located at the base of the Acropolis in the Plaka, the oldest section of Athens, is a charming workshop and gallery where artisan Sofia Gkani creates intricately detailed replicas of classical Greek vessels. Beautifully hand-painted, Sofia meticulously reproduces Corinthian, Geometric, Red or Black Figure designs on each unique terracotta piece. Each vessel is signed and numbered by the artist.
This Greek vase replica depicts Achilles and Ajax on one side and the return of Kastor and Polydeukis on the other. A belly amphora does not have a distinguished neck; instead, the belly reaches the mouth in a continuous curve. This shape was rarely used after the mid-5th century B.C. Topped with a terracotta lid.
