Gamikos Lebes Vessel

Located at the base of the Acropolis in the Plaka, the oldest section of Athens, is a charming workshop and gallery where artisan Sofia Gkani creates intricately detailed replicas of classical Greek vessels. Beautifully hand-painted, Sofia meticulously reproduces Corinthian, Geometric, Red or Black Figure designs on each unique terracotta piece. Each vessel is signed and numbered by the artist.

The Gamikos Lebes vessel is a form of ancient Greek pottery used in marriage ceremonies and given as a gift to the bride and groom.

Images of a bride preparing herself for the wedding and a depiction of Eros, the symbol of love, are featured on the upper portion of the vessel. Below are depictions of the bride and groom and other family members.
