Panathenaic Games Amphora

Located at the base of the Acropolis in the Plaka, the oldest section of Athens, is a charming workshop and gallery where artisan Sofia Gkani creates intricately detailed replicas of classical Greek vessels. Beautifully hand-painted, Sofia meticulously reproduces Corinthian, Geometric, Red, or Black Figure designs on each unique terracotta piece. Each vessel is signed and numbered by the artist.

During the Panathenaic games, these amphorae were filled with olive oil and awarded to the winning athletes as trophies. A sporting scene is featured on one side and goddess Athena is depicted on the other.
