Robert Mapplethorpe New York Flowers Boxed Note Cards

  • This decorative note card set highlights one of the J. Paul Getty's Museum's recently aquired collections of photographs. Robert Mapplethorpe (American, 1946 - 1989) is among the most significant artists of the late twentieth century. His unrelenting pursuit of formal perfection helped him to transform the floral still life photograph from a rather sentimental, stilted genre into important contemporary theme. Mapplethorpe's bold and meticulously lit compositions captured the delicate, ephemeral beauty of flowers and preserved it in his finely-crafted gelatin silver prints.
