This partial torso of a discus thrower, crafted in a composite material including alabaster, reproduces a fragment of the original bronze statue, now lost, created by the Greek sculptor Naucydes in the early 4th century BCE. A reproduction of the whole statue is on display in the Louvre Museum's galleries.
